BREAKING — Debbie Reynolds dead at 84

Actress Debbie Reynolds, who was hospitalized Wednesday after suffering a stroke, has passed away at the age of 84.

The announcement was made by her son Todd Fisher.

Reynolds died just a day after the death of her daughter Carrie Fisher.

She married singer Eddie Fisher in 1955 (divorced in 1959) and had two children, Carrie and Todd.

Some of her best known film performances include Singin’ in the Rain, Tammy and the BachelorThe Unsinkable Molly Brown and the TV movie Halloweentown.

BREAKING — ‘Star Wars’ actress Carrie Fisher dead at 60

Carrie Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the original Star Wars trilogy died on Tuesday morning at the age of 60.

The family’s spokesman Simon Halls announced the news of her passing in a statement to People magazine. “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed profoundly. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.”

The actress suffered a heart attack on December 23rd while on a flight from London to Los Angeles.

Fisher reprised her role as Princess Leia in last year’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and finished wrapping scenes for Star Wars: Episode VIII.

 

‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ Celebrates 70 Years

It’s A Wonderful Life, turned 70 years old this week!

The beloved Christmas film premiered in New York City on December 20, 1946. Although it opened to mixed reviews, it has since become one of the most iconic holiday classics.

It stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a good guy with beautiful wife Mary (Donna Reed) and loving children, who wishes that he wasn’t alive as he struggles in life and feels like a failure to the people around him in the town of Bedford Falls. He meets Clarence Odbody (played by Henry Travers), an angel who is sent to Earth on a mission to earn his wings and shows Bailey how wonderful his life truly is and how different the lives of his family and friends would be if he were not in it.

The film co-stars Lionel Barrymore as Mr. Potter, Thomas Mitchell as Uncle Billy Bailey, Beulah Bondi as Ma Bailey and Todd Karns as Harry Bailey.

Paramount released It’s A Wonderful Life: Platinum Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray on October 11, 2016.

Family and Friends Say Goodbye to ‘Growing Pains’ Star Alan Thicke

The late Alan Thicke was laid to rest on Tuesday in a California cemetery, a week after his sudden passing.

On Sunday evening, about 300 guests gathered at a memorial service in Santa Barbara to remember the actor. Attendees included his family: sons Robin, Brennan and Carter Thicke, and wife Tanya, as well as his Growing Pains TV family: Joanna Kerns, Kirk Cameron, Tracey Gold, Jeremy Miller, Ashley Johnson and Leonardo DiCaprio.

Also in attendance were Bob Saget, Alex Trebek, Kris Jenner and Rob Lowe.

Daughter-in law Dolly Thicke, posted pictures and a wrote message about details from the service. “Tonight’s memorial for Alan was just about perfect. So much family and so many historic friends came out to remember our beloved father-figure. Speaking for Alan so beautifully was (I’m realizing now) an all-star cast.”

The post went on to read, “We heard from our own Robin Thicke who brought up all dear dad’s best friends, Bob Saget, Bill Maher, Alex Trebec who I had no idea had such old deep ties to our family, the entire cast of Growing Pains including Leo and Kirk Cameron who I had the pleasure of meeting for the first time, along with his wife who became an instant friend.”

Thicke passed away on December 13, 2016 at the age of 69.

 

‘Titanic’ released in theaters 19 years ago today

James Cameron’s blockbuster film Titanic was released 19 years ago today.

The film which opened on December 19, 1997, starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet as third class passenger Jack Dawson and first class passenger Rose DeWitt Bukater, respectively, whom fall in love on the doomed ocean liner.

Titanic sailed up the charts to become a box-office success. It is currently the second highest-grossing film of all time, with a total of $2.1 billion. It was re-released in 3D in April 2012 to coincide with 100th anniversary of the sinking of the RMS Titanic and the 15th anniversary of the film.

Titanic went on to win four Golden Globe Awards and 11 Academy Awards, both of which included Best Director and Best Picture.
