‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ Celebrates 70 Years

It’s A Wonderful Life, turned 70 years old this week!

The beloved Christmas film premiered in New York City on December 20, 1946. Although it opened to mixed reviews, it has since become one of the most iconic holiday classics.

It stars James Stewart as George Bailey, a good guy with beautiful wife Mary (Donna Reed) and loving children, who wishes that he wasn’t alive as he struggles in life and feels like a failure to the people around him in the town of Bedford Falls. He meets Clarence Odbody (played by Henry Travers), an angel who is sent to Earth on a mission to earn his wings and shows Bailey how wonderful his life truly is and how different the lives of his family and friends would be if he were not in it.

The film co-stars Lionel Barrymore as Mr. Potter, Thomas Mitchell as Uncle Billy Bailey, Beulah Bondi as Ma Bailey and Todd Karns as Harry Bailey.

Paramount released It’s A Wonderful Life: Platinum Anniversary Edition for Blu-ray on October 11, 2016.
