Legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald would have turned 100 years old today.

Fitzgerald was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 25, 1917. She made her amateur singing debut on November 17, 1934 at the age of 17 during Amateur Night at the Apollo Theater in Harlem.

“The First Lady of Song,” as she was nicknamed, had a career that spanned nearly 60 years.

She passed away on June 15, 1996 at the age of 79 after a long battle with diabetes.

To commemorate her centennial anniversary, the National Museum of American History will hold an exhibit (that began April 1) titled “The First Lady of Song: Ella Fitzgerald at 100 which will run until April 2, 2018.

It has been a year ago today without this musical genius.

Singer/songwriter Prince (born Prince Nelson Rogers) shockingly passed away on April 21, 2017 in his home at Paisley Park from an accidental drug overdose. He was 57 years old.

To celebrate his life, there will be a four-day event in Minneapolis, including concerts, street party and, of course, fans can check out his home which was made into a museum last year.

We miss you Prince. RIP
