Wednesday marks 15 years since Spider-Man swung into theaters.
The original film directed by Sam Raimi, was released on May 3, 2002. It starred Tobey Maguire as “your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man,” and a cast supported by Kirsten Dunst, James France, Willem Dafoe, Cliff Robertson, Rosemary Harris, and of course, a cameo by Stan Lee.
On opening weekend, it became the first film to gross over $100 million. During its run, it made a total of $821.7 million worldwide.
After the original trilogy ended in 2007, it has been rebooted twice: first with The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone), and the soon-to-be released Spider-Man: Homecoming (starring Tom Holland, whom made his debut as the superhero in Captain America: Civil War).
Happy anniversary Spidey!
