“Heath Ledger dead at 28.”
That is one headline many of us will never forget reading.
Monday marked ten years since the untimely passing of one of Hollywood’s most respected young actors.
At just 28 years old, Ledger achieved so much in his lifetime. He had a career that spanned 15 years which included some iconic roles in films including 10 Things I Hate About You, The Patriot, A Knight’s Tale, Lords of Dogtown and The Brothers Grimm.
Ledger was praised by critics during the 2016 awards season for his performance as Ennis Del Mar in Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain, starring opposite Jake Gyllenhaal’s Jack Twist. He was received Best Actor nominations at the Golden Globes and Academy Awards.
However, it was his performance as The Joker in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight which will always remain his most iconic and favorite among fans and critics. His role as the fictional super-villain garnered him numerous posthumous awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
There’s no doubt of how many other memorable performances Heath Ledger would have had during the past years.
