A date that is still and will always be difficult for the fans of the late R&B singer and actress Aaliyah, who passed away 16 years ago today.
On Saturday, August 25, 2001, not too long after wrapping the shoot for her music video “Rock the Boat” in the Bahamas, Aaliyah and seven members of her entourage boarded a twin-engine Cessna 402B to take them back home to the United States. The plane crashed shortly after takeoff.

At just 22 years old, Aaliyah made achievements that only a few would make in a lifetime. She had three multi-platinum albums, a number of hit singles and starred in two films, with other projects lined up. We can’t help but think where she would be now in her life and career if she were still alive.
Aaliyah blossomed in front of our very eyes for seven years, from a tomboy teen into an elegant and confident woman. She was a beautiful person, inside and out, and lit up a room with her radiant smile. She truly was “one in a million.”
We love you.
We miss you.
And let us not forget the ones who left this earth with Aaliyah on that August day: Eric Forman, Anthony Dodd, Scott Gallin, Keith Wallace, Christopher Maldonado, Douglas Kratz, Gina Smith and Louis Morales III
